THIS OLD WORLD VIDEO PREMIERE
Magnet Magazine premieres the first video from Belly of the Lion
Magnet Magazine recently premiered the first video from Belly of the Lion here. According to Austin Sound "There’s something a little creepy about hearing David Wingo’s croaking voice filtered through a little girl, but then leave it to the amazing Zellner Brothers (creators of the Octopus Project’s incredible videos) to make the charming unexpectedly weird. We will say that David and Nathan Zellner manage to perfectly capture the sense of restless and youthful malaise and frustration that drips from the songs of Ola Podrida, but man, this little girl is gonna need some help by the time she’s a teenager." You can read more here.
EARLY PRESS FOR BELLY OF THE LION
Pitchfork Media, The Austin Chronicle, Aquarium Drunkard, and KUT
Several publications have expressed early praise for Belly of the Lion! According to Pitchfork "...Wingo doesn't make the scenario especially momentous. Instead, he keeps the song life-size, but ironically, that only makes it sound that much larger and more poignant-- an ode to plans made but never executed." Read the full track review for "Your Father's Basement" here.
The Austin Chronicle recently published an early review of Belly of the Lionhere and a feature/interview with David Wingo here.
Aquarium Drunkard recently premiered the track "Roomful of Sparrows." You can check it out here.
Austin's NPR station KUT recently featured Belly of the Lion's opening track "The Closest We Will Ever Be" as their Song of the Day here.
BELLY OF THE LION
New release available Nov 10th
The new Ola Podrida album Belly of the Lion will be available in November, on CD and mp3. Chockfull of unsentimental love songs, the album pulses with the burgeoning sexuality borne of feral adolescent summers spent in the sprawling suburbs of the South. It's hard not to be wooed, as the songs gingerly lay to rest the calamities that inevitably befall an adventurous heart.
